Owen’s Leukemia – Day 57

Last spinal tap for a couple of weeks!  That is such a nice thing.  It is so hard to watch him get put under the sedation, so it will be nice to have a little break.  He has one more week in this second phase (Consolidation) and then he starts Interim Maintenance.  It will be a 56 day segment with 2 chemo meds given by IV every 10 days.  He has had them both… the one is the Vincristine that he got during Induction, and the other is Methotrexate.  The Methotrexate is what they have been giving him in his spinal fluid these past few weeks, but during the next phase they give it to him in an IV.  This medicine is going to get increasingly stronger each week, but they base it off of his blood counts and how much he can handle.

His counts were really good today!!  The highest they have been!  They are most likely going to start going down after he starts the next phase, so we have to enjoy these good days! When we were at the hospital last week, he got the soccer ball and couldn’t wait to get back there today for the football.  He was pretty excited (you can’t tell by the expression, but he was).

Wow, he looks like such a little man in this picture. Glad to hear you get a break from the spinal taps!
