Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Days 115-117

Friday was a fun day for all.  Owen had a playdate with two of his good friends, Noah and Annalise.  Then for dinner, Mommy got to have a playdate too with some of my friends!

Saturday, he went to Nanny and Poppy’s and got to see his great Aunts and Uncle.  He was a little shy, but afterward he said about how nice it was to visit with them.  The leprechaun came to our house on Saturday and hid a pot of gold in our backyard.  Owen had so much fun looking for it, and loved the loot that was inside.  Logan on the other hand wasn’t too sure about the whole getup…

Today was spent getting ready for this coming week.  We did have some relaxing too.  I loved this picture I got of Owen today…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, and have a great start to the week!

Owen’s Leukemia – Days 113-114

Not much happened here yesterday, so I took the day off from posting.  Didn’t want to bore you with “we did laundry!”.  Owen has been doing good.  He started getting a little bit of a cold last night, and I don’t know if it was that or his legs, but he had kind of a restless night of sleep.  He even slept in this morning, which doesn’t happen too often.

Nana and Pap Pap came today so I could go to a MOMs club activity.  Owen, of course, loves his visits from them and has so much fun playing.  He received this very sweet gift the other day from one of Jeff’s co-workers, it was the story of Easter and a basket of eggs that goes along with the story.  It is really neat because they explain the Passion in a way that children can understand.  It was perfect timing because ever since we went to church a few weekends ago, Owen has been asking a lot of questions about God.  He really likes the story.  We have read it the past two nights before bed, and he couldn’t wait to show Nana and Pap Pap today.

Both boys were sad to see them go.  Here they were looking out the window as they were leaving.  I was trying to work on creating a “silhouette” effect with the picture but I didn’t really achieve exactly what I was looking for.  I’ll have to keep practicing.

I like the shot! You got a silhouette look but still a slight amount of light on the sides of their faces and Logan’s hands. I think it looks nice.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 111

We had a great morning.  We stopped by Owen’s school to say hi, and Owen got to play outside with his friends for a little while!  He had sooo much fun.  It was so good for him to see his teachers and friends.  They haven’t forgot him… as soon as we went into the classroom they all yelled his name!  He was in such a good mood for the rest of the day too.

So much so, he kept telling me he wasn’t tired and didn’t want a nap, so I suggested laying on the couch and watching some of his shows.  It wasn’t long before he was out.

I’m glad Owen had fun at school today! The first thing Dominic told me was that Owen came to school today and they got to play!

Sam was super excited to see Owen as well! What a treat that he was able to visit!

Owen’s Leukemia – Days 108-110

Friday was Owen’s last appointment for the Interim Maintenance Phase and we got some good news and some not as good news.  The good news was that they wrote us a script for Physical Therapy, and they held off giving him the Vincristine on Friday due to his dropped leg.  Then the not so good news… well, the Doctor last week had said that we weren’t going to start the next phase until March 27, but since they didn’t do the Vincristine this week, they are wanting to start it on the 20th of March instead.  Not as much of a break as we originally thought.  They will only start the next phase if his counts are good, but chances are they will be alright.  Especially since this weeks medicine wasn’t that bad.  They didn’t increase the Methotrexate this week either.

Another thing we learned was that after Delayed Intensification, we go back into the phase we were just in (Interim Maintenance) before we go into Maintenance.  I don’t know why, but I was under the impression that once we made it through Delayed Intensification we would be kinda “home free”.  That things would start getting easier.  They will do the same as they did for this phase where they increase the Methotrexate each week so we will have the risk of the mouth sores again.  I just pray that we make it through Delayed Intensification without too many hospital stays.

On to the happy stuff.  He has felt super all weekend!  And, it was a nice spring teaser weekend here in Pittsburgh, so that made it even better.  Saturday and Sunday we got to spend a lot of time outdoors and Owen had a blast playing with our neighbors.  He got to ride his “new to him” bike from his cousin Jack and rode it well!  Looking forward to a good week ahead.
