Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 107

I didn’t know if I should mark this as a good day or bad day.  We had moments of each.  Probably more good than bad.

Over the past couple of days, his left leg has been “dropped”. It doesn’t really hurt him per say, but it just drags when he walks.  Today he really seemed depressed about it and kept crying because he “can’t run” and was having a hard time walking up and down the stairs.  This is a side effect from Vincristine, but we still need to bring it up with the doctors tomorrow at his appointment.  I hope it isn’t something that will last after he is off the medicine, but we have read that sometimes physical therapy helps it.

We head to the hospital for the final treatment of the Interim Maintenance phase.  After tomorrow, we have a two week break before the rough phase starts.  I guess they want to give his body a little time to heal before they start beating it down again.

Today he was into all of my hair ties… looks like he is ready to workout.

:( I thought this was the rough phase.

He will be on the maintenance side before you know it! It is like nothing compared to the other phases! Enjoy the break Owen! Hope to see you soon. Jake loved your visit to school.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 106

We had a special visitor today!  One of Owen’s former teachers from school came today, Miss Jessica!  He was so excited all morning and couldn’t wait till she got here to make her cookies (in his kitchen), play dress up, and the fun went on and on.  I think he smiled pretty much the whole time.

Logan slept through the whole visit, but he got to enjoy some of the goodies she brought for them both.  Owen was reading to him their new book and he was so interested…

Thanks again Miss Jessica for stopping by and playing with him today, and for all of the goodies.  He loved it!!!

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 105

7 am this morning, Owen was up, dressed and ready for the day.  He could not wait to go downstairs and be Woody for the day…

You can tell his eyes were still a little sleepy.  He didn’t go to sleep until 10 last night and that was after not napping yesterday.  Long day.  He fought taking a nap today, but once he went down, he was out for 3 hours.  He needs his sleep, but I think when he is feeling good, he doesn’t want to waste his time sleeping.

Conversation right before I came downstairs… I was walking out of Owen/Logan’s room after laying Logan down and I turned on this rainbow light that Owen had received from one of his teachers at school… Owen: “Why did you turn my rainbow light on for Logan?”, Me: “well, someone should enjoy it.  Maybe if you sleep in your room, you could see it too.”  Owen: “Maybe someday…”  Oh, how I hope that day comes soon.  I love him, but he needs to start sleeping in his own bed.

This picture is the cutest!! Glad he is using his imagination. Bring him over to the daycare to see the rainbow with his picture!

This is the best portrait ever! I love everything about it! Especially hearing that it was a good day!

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 104

Owen woke up through the night asking for “tummy medicine”, but after he had that, we had a really good day.  Spent most of it organizing the kids clothes.  Owen was too funny… he kept pulling out all of this 2T stuff saying he still wanted to wear it and was determined to make it fit.  Didn’t get any pictures today since I spent so much time with the house in disarray.

Owen’s Leukemia – Days 102-103

Yesterday was a relaxing day.  Right before dinner, Owen complained of his throat hurting, so we tried some of the mouthwash.  That wasn’t helping so we gave him some pain medicine.  That seemed to do the trick because he was fine after that.

Today was a very nice day.  My Mother-in-law donated flowers for the alter at her church in honor of Owen, so our family, theirs and my brother-in-laws family all met at the church for the service.  The Pastor said a few extra prayers for Owen, and got to meet him face to face.  Owen loved getting to see his cousins!!

Here is a picture of Owen and I.  I wanted to get one of Owen and Logan in the nice outfits, but Logan didn’t want to have anything to do with that…
