Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 100

Wow! Day 100 that he has been on chemo!  That is a lot of days…  he is about half way to maintenance, and then maintenance will be another 2 1/2 years (still taking medicines and getting tests, but not as hard on his body).

We had a low key, fun day.  He had his ups and downs.  I think the chemo comes out in waves.  He will be feeling fine and playing around, then he wants to lay down and take it easy.  He had a 3 hour nap today, so I think that helped him feel better too.

We were mixing colors with paint for him to learn what colors make other colors.  Another thing we were working on was counting and numbers.  Here he is looking through his flip cards…

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 99

Today was a sedation and chemo day.  Owen wasn’t allowed to eat after 11 pm last night, and previously, he really hasn’t minded not getting to eat on days he gets spinal taps, but this morning, he wasn’t very happy that he wasn’t allowed to eat.  I felt so bad, he kept asking for breakfast…

His appointment was at 11:30 this morning, and after some crying when his port was accessed, he did great.  He was very brave.  He came out of the anesthesia quicker than he normally does, but he was still acting pretty out of it.  He slept the whole way home and has been doing pretty good all evening.  We are planning on giving him some more zofran so that hopefully he doesn’t get sick through the night.  They scaled back slightly on the Methotrexate due to the  mouth sores, so hopefully he doesn’t get them again.  The doctors say that you never know.

Nanny went with us today and Owen was enjoying some book time before they did the treatment.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 98

We enjoyed another day of Owen feeling good.  Tomorrow we head to the hospital for the chemo he missed last Friday.  He will be getting a lumbar puncture for them to test his spinal fluid for cancer cells, and inject methotrexate into it.  He also gets Vincristine and Methotrexate via the IV.   We are preparing for some rough days ahead… Let’s hope and pray for the best.

Praying for Owen and that treatment won’t be too rough today. Sending love to all of you.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 97

What a glorious day!  The sun was shining and my boy was feeling good!  We needed to get out of the house, so we headed to the park!  A little chilly, but we dressed warm.  We met some of his best friends, Noah and Annalise, there for some much needed time outdoors.

It was so nice to see him climbing…

and taking a break with his brother…

We came home right before lunch to meet Nana and Pap Pap!  They came down for an afternoon visit with the boys.  It was a great day all around.

We had so much fun! Noah said at nap time, “It was so great seeing Owen. I sure missed him.”. Annalise told John first thing when he walked in from work, “We saw Owen!”. Although, it sounded m,ore like onion. :-)
