Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 90

Yucky day here… Owen woke up with a sore throat and hasn’t said too much of anything today.  He hasn’t eaten a thing all day, but continues to feel like he is going to be sick.

I called the nurse today, and they prescribed him a different anti-nausea medicine to see if it helps at all.  I just feel so bad for him.  He looks miserable, and seems depressed.  He doesn’t want to do anything.  We headed out to go pick up his prescription  and stopped by his school so one of his teachers could bring out his Valentine’s box.  We got home, but only got a few of them out before he wanted to stop.  He just didn’t want to do anything today.  Here is a pic I snapped while he was starting to pull stuff out of his box.

Poor kid. Praying for some normalcy for that sweet little guy!

Owen’s Leukemia – Days 87-89

Pretty low key weekend here at the Evans house.  Friday, Owen just rested most of the day, then at dinner time he was ready for bed.   Then, from about 7 pm on he was vomiting every hour.  Even the anti-nausea medicine couldn’t help.  He was miserable, and it was a LONG night.  Saturday, he did a lot of sleeping.  His belly was a little more calm, but still not eating.  It was good that he was able to sleep though.

Today was a lot of resting too.  He was able to eat a little, but not much.  He would eat a little, then was sick… I feel so bad for him, and wish that there was something that I could do to make him feel better.  Sorry for the lack of pictures, but he hasn’t been up for being photographed.

Hopefully this week gets better.  My fear is still what is to come.  If he is doing this bad now, and it is only going to get worse.  We just need to have the strength to make it through this really rough time.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 86

Happy Valentines Day!!

Well, the rest of last night didn’t go so well.  He was just really restless, couldn’t get comfortable at all and couldn’t sleep.  He was up till about 3 am when he finally took some Zofran (anti-nausea) and was able to fall asleep after that.

Today was kinda much of the same.  Just didn’t feel good.  He really didn’t eat anything today and has just been tired.  Days like these, he really likes his You Tube to cheer him up.  Here is the latest video craze that the boys love in our house:

It’s the Harlem Shake.  If you have never heard about it, go search on You Tube and there are hundreds of videos to keep you entertained for quite some time:)

We did try to do a Valentine’s Day photo shoot in our basement today, but trying to get them both in the picture wasn’t too successful.  Here is what I got…

I did manage to get a pretty cute one of just Owen.

Trying to get Logan to be still for longer than a second is pretty impossible.  I hope everyone had a great day!!

They look so cute.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 85

Today was a hospital day.  He was very brave and took the access to the port well.  He is still afraid that it is going to hurt, but because he has the numbing cream it is more of a mental thing than actual pain.

We asked them about the leg pain, and they said a side affect of the one chemo medicine is leg numbness, so that might have been what he was experiencing and didn’t really know how to express it.  They keep an eye on that, and if he keeps having it,  they might back down a little on that medicine.

He didn’t have an appetite tonight, and ended up getting sick at bedtime.  Poor little guy.  Hopefully he will feel better tomorrow.

Hopefully Owen feels better this morning and able to have some fun today. Please wish the boys a Happy Valentine’s Day and give them a hug and kiss from the Reed’s.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 84

We had a great day today.  He was feeling good.  We went up to Nanny and Poppy’s this morning, so Nanny and I could start cutting fabric.  Her and I are making quilts for the boys bunk beds.  We had hundreds of little squares to cut.  I can not wait to get them started as I think they are going to look soooo  good.  Owen claims that once his is done, he can then sleep in his bed.  One more motivation to get them done quicker.  Do I think that is actually going to work?  Probably not, but it is nice to think that it will.  We are working on it. Last night he fell asleep in his bed, but then Logan started crying and woke him up.  He then came in to our room.  Owen woke up around midnight complaining of his legs hurting… then he said his stomach was upset.  We gave him some of his anti-nausea medicine, and that seemed to help.  We’re not sure what was going on with the legs comments.  We need to ask the doctor tomorrow.  It makes me worried since that was the symptom that got us his diagnosis.  He was walking fine today and no complaints, so maybe it was nothing.

Here is Owen explaining to Nanny how she needs to cut the fabric.

I’d get that quilt done quickly! I got some suggestions from a couple of my male co-workers on how to get him to sleep in his own bed but I don’t think I’ll post them here! You know how sensitive construction guys can be. 😉
