Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 70

Owen was feeling good today, Yay!!  We even ventured out this morning so that I could go through the drive through oil change… such an exciting life:-)

He was feeling groovy, so he pulled out the tye-dye this morning (and made his brother wear his too).  Owen is always hot anymore which I think is due to the medicines, so in the house his pants usually come off.  Maybe it’s a boy thing?  Anyway, here he is in his boat giving me a nice big cheesy grin.

I think it’s a boy thing….I know another 3 year old who belongs in a nudist colony. He always says “I’m going to take my socks off” and if you turn your head for a second, you’ll find him in his undies!

Glad the flu bug is over at your house! It is good to see all the smiles on Owens face. He is a very precious little guy.

It was nice to see him last night via face time! And I’m glad he is wearing tie dye, he’s gonna rock out!! I’m hoping hartwood has a good line up this year so we all can groove. Tell my nephew(s) uncle rusto said hey!!:-)

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 69

I don’t want to jinx anything, but I think we might be heading in the right direction with overcoming this bug.  Owen has been doing better…. still some tummy issues, but no throwing up.  Such a positive thing.

He was trying to explain to me this craft that he wanted to do today, and I was not understanding at all what he was talking about.  Then he said go to You Tube, that video with the sweats

We watched this often before Christmas, and apparently he remembered the menorah craft that his school had given him and wanted to do it now.  What a memory this kid has.

So, here is our Hanukkah craft (a little late)…

Hi Renee,

how tough your last few days have been. i hope you are all over it as soon as possible. What I wanted to say though, was that one of the things your blog does so well, is let us old cynical grown ups see the world through a child’s eyes. It is a wonderful thing to see.

Take care all of you. High five for Owen!

Happy Hanukkah to the Owens Family. I forgot to put that on my New Year’s card ;o)
Glad the bug is leaving!

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 68

5:30 am morning sheet change, again.  I think I have changed my sheets more this past week than I typically do in a whole year.  This morning was a little rough, but after his nap this afternoon, Owen seemed to be feeling a little better.  He and Daddy did a Valentine box craft so that he can put all of his valentine’s in it.  He was pretty proud of it…  (it’s a pirate ship if you can’t tell)

Look at those eyes! What a great picture. And such a good idea for valentines for a boy! Hopefully you guys will be over this bug soon!!

That bug sure needs to go away. Los like Owen is very proud of his ship – I love the wide eyed picture.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 67

So, it was a better day than it has been.  Owen still had a queasy stomach, but it wasn’t until dinner time that he was actually sick.  We were thinking that we were pretty much out of the water until then, but now we don’t know again.  We spent a lot of time sanitizing, scrubbing, steaming, cleaning… to make this bug GO AWAY!!!!  He is no longer welcome here.  Well, he never really was, but he has definitely overstayed his visit.

Owen was practicing his writing and drawing with this neat book our friends got him.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 66

Once again a sick day for Owen.  I spoke too soon with the post last night, as he wasn’t over it.  This poor kid… I feel so bad for him.  I called his doctor today to try to get an idea if this is from the chemo medicine or from the stomach bug, and they said probably a little of both, but more than likely, the bug.  They say the kids get nauseous for 1-3 days after they get the medicines Owen is getting, but shouldn’t have this much vomiting.  He just can’t keep anything down.  Hopefully he can pull out of this soon!!!

He usually gets a little burst of energy and happiness for a short time after he is sick, so I was able to catch this cute picture of him smiling today.  I just love this face…
