Owen's Story bio picture
  • Hello, and thanks for joining me on my journey.

This is Owen. He is a 3 1/2 year old boy who is loving, energetic and loves to have fun. He was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 18, 2012. This is his story.

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 65

Is this sickness EVER going to leave this house?!?!  I am ready to be done with it…. Owen spent most of the morning thinking he was going to be sick, so we spent a lot of time in the bathroom.  He didn’t actually get sick till lunchtime.  He hasn’t really eaten anything in a few days, but I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing.  This is how most of the morning was spent

but then after lunch, he decided to get his game face on…

he was determined to not be sick anymore.  Maybe it worked?  I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

It sounds pretty tough for you all at the moment Renee, but it sounds like Owen is being a real trooper. Keep going Owen, you are a very brave young man.

Feel better soon! Please call me if you need me to run to the store!!

3 Years from today…

will be the end of Owen’s treatment.  It seems like forever!  He will be in 1st grade and will know so much more than he knows today.  It is almost as long as he has been alive.  So many things go through my head to think about this number…. but I need to stop.  We need to focus on the next 56 days and what they will bring.

Today began the Interim Maintenance segment of the treatment.  We will go every other Wednesday or Friday so that he can receive the 2 chemo medicines.  Today went well.  This morning…. well, I kept questioning whether we were going to be able to go since Owen was sick all last night and it picked up again this morning.  He did a lot of napping and taking it easy, and they said to bring him in so they could test his counts.  They wouldn’t have been able to start this phase if his blood counts were too low, but they were still really good.  He was a little rockstar.  I took him by myself today since Jeff wasn’t feeling the best and he needed to watch Logan.

Early night for tonight after only 3 hours of sleep last night… sorry for the lack of pictures lately.  There isn’t anything too attractive around this house during this yucky sickness.  Hopefully by the end of the week, we will all be feeling better.

Thanks for all of the well wishes!!

Hello Renee,
I am glad to hear you are on the mend, I know 3 yrs. seems like a long time but you know how time flys by! Hang in there and know that a lot of us are here for you!! Thankyou for keeping us updated!

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 63

Well, I am finally starting to feel a little bit normal again.  I have not been that out of commission in a long time… My only hope is that Jeff and the kids don’t get it too.  Owen was feeling good all day, but then around 4:30 he started complaining that his belly was upset.  Then after Jeff came home, he was still saying the same thing.  He did get sick once, but it seemed a little “forced” more than just spontaneous, but I called the hospital anyway.  After what I went though the past couple days, I just wanted to be overly cautious with him.  The Doctor on call told us to give him some Zofran (anti-nausea medicine) and keep him on a bland diet with clear liquids.  That seemed to work because he was feeling good not long after.

Edit 1-23-13:  I guess I wrote too soon.  I went upstairs after writing this post and not long after I got into bed, Owen was sick again.  So, after two bed changes, I took him downstairs.  He was sick a couple more times before he finally feel asleep.  I woke this morning to find Logan sick too…. Hopefully Jeff can avoid this!  I am ready for this week to be over.

Tomorrow is a chemo day.  Hopefully all goes well!!

Here is a picture from Saturday.  We were all having too much fun playing so I didn’t get a lot… and the lighting was pretty yucky.  This is Sara and Owen playing with “Floam”!!

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 60-62

Great news… Owen has had 3 really good days in a row!  He has been active, having fun, and enjoying some time with family.  Saturday his cousins from Harrisburg came out for the day & we had a lot of fun.  Sunday Renee was sick… so I took the boys to my parents to keep them away.  Good times… but I think we wore my parents out.  When a 3yr old & 1yr get together for a 10+ hrs play fest… apparently the retirees just aren’t used to it?!?!  But we definitely appreciate the hospitality!

Renee is still not feeling the best, so it was a slow day until I got home.  Owen took me on a treasure hunt which was a great time.  I never knew how many of his stuffed animals wanted treasure… but his imagination is so funny!  We were fighting them off, negotiating, & teaming up with them.  Where does he get it???  He also showed me his new flash cards his teacher from daycare put together (thank you!).  And he just finished off his 3 medicine night cap!  So I’m ready to call it a night…

Hopefully Renee will be feeling better tomorrow so she can start posting again.  Thank you to all wondering if all was well.  -Take care

Owen’s Leukemia – Day 59

Not much to report.  My parents came again today for a little visit.  Owen absolutely LOVES going in to the basement and playing with Pap Pap.  I think it is great!

He’s got a big day tomorrow… my brother and his family are coming tomorrow, so Owen gets to see his cousins.  He is really looking forward to it a lot!!

Have a great weekend everyone!
